Computer Networking -Base of internet

What is a Network?

The above image could be imagined as a network where there are uncountable number of users (different colored threads). They are all interconnected with each other in some way, and we can also imagine the two big nails as Internet through which they are all connected to each other.

Network is a path through which the data could be shared around the globe. It is classified mainly in two types: Wired Network and secondly into, Wireless Network.

Let us understand it with an example, Suppose you and some of your friends went for a amazing picnic or adventurous tour and you clicked photos, captured videos. Now, after 7 days of amazing trip you all returned to your hometown happily. Now one of your friend asked you to share the videos and pictures you captured so, now you will share the data either through whatsapp, messenger, or any other sharing application. Here, now comes the concept of network into light, while sharing files among your friends you have been allocated an IP address or we can say a switch button (in layman language) from where you can share data with your friends at a time.

There could be two type of network one is "Public Network" another one is "Private Network". So, now you will think what are these networks? and how they work? and when and where are these network used? So, here we are only going know what are these two network and details we will know in later sessions.

Public and Private Network ??

Public Network are those which is for every individual who is using internet. It is just like a public bus you might have travelled with your friends and family someday. Eg.  Internet

The above image can be visualized as the public network because everyone is connected to each other over the internet in some mean.

Private Network like Whatsapp and Messengers falls into the category of private network. Private network are those which are end to end encrypted which ensures the privacy of the data sharing between the two or more peoples.

The above image could be imagined as the private network where few peoples are interconnected with each other for sharing data and communicate with each other. It provides the privacy that every user need but it contains some disadvantages too with high security for the privacy of any individual.

I think it would be ample amount of information to get you introduce with What is a Network.

Computer networking?

Computer Networking is the set of computer which are connected with each other to share the data and communicate one to one, or one to many or many to many, within the protocols created or directed.

Types of Networks?

There are 11 types of Networks but basically there are 5 types of main network that you have to know about.

  1. Local Area Network [LAN]
  2. Wide Area Network [WAN]
  3. Wireless Local Area Network [WLAN]
  4. Metropolitan Area Network [MAN]
  5. Personal Area Network [PAN]
  6. Campus Area Network [CAN]
  7. Storage Area Network [SAN]
  8. Virtual private Network [VPN]
  9. Enterprise Private Network [EPN]
  10. System Area Network [SAN]
  11. Passive Optical Local Area Network [POLAN]
Firstly, only first 5 networks we will discuss and after that we will have a short but effective discussion on the other types of networks mentioned above. The motive behind doing it is to be away from the confusion that could be rooted in your mind while discussing all of them altogether. Hope you would have understood my approach behind it.

One more interesting thing about Computer Networking is that it is the field which is neverending sector in the world because everything in today's era is digitally connected with each other.

You could connect and communicate with your loving one's sitting in any other country or city.

Technology advances with the rapid pace and you have to run with the same ace to be in the competition. But remember one thing which "Basic Concept", it never changes with the advancement of the technology. So, friends focus on the basics, the fundamental is the core of anything.

Hope you would have imbibed certain knowledge and we will be having the sessions on networking more and more with examples and learn the networking with fun.

Have a Great Day!!! 😎
